Two higher-priced but great American restaurants in Chicago are McCormick and Schmicks has great seafood, and their happy hour specials are incredible.  The woodwork is beautiful, and it's a very classy place.  Also classy is Ruth's Chris Steak House, which is known more for their steaks, of course.  Top end food.

2.  Reasonably Priced American Restaurants in Chicago

More inexpensive American restaurants in Chicago are Applebees, TGI Fridays, both of which have large menus, generous portions, friendly waitstaff, and great bars.  The Outback steak house is actually Australian, but it's basically a chop house, but not as expensive as Ruth's Chris.
